Time Trials Tomorrow!
Hello Swordfish Families!
We are looking forward to Time Trials tomorrow morning. Tomorrow is an opportunity for swimmers to get fresh times for the 2024 season and an opportunity for first times for our new swimmers. It's also an opportunity to practice meet etiquette and good sportsmanship. To give the kids a feel for a dual meet, we will be splitting them up into 2 teams tomorrow. Swimmers have been randomly assigned a team and should report to their team’s area upon arrival (see attachment).
Coaches Ben, Ian, and Dylan will lead the AWAY team and will set up where the away team sits when we host a home meet.
Coaches Sarah, Sarah, and Leah will lead the HOME team and will set up where our team sits when we host a home meet.
If you don't see your swimmer's name on the list, please have them see Coach Sarah when they arrive and she will place them on a team.
WE ARE NOT KEEPING SCORE! This is just practice for all of us- the athletes, parents, volunteers and team reps.
The timeline for Saturday is as follows:
7:45am Pool Set Up-If you have volunteered for set up (or you just want to lend a hand to help things along), please arrive at 7:45.
8:15am Coach and Swimmer arrival; even though this is not a dual meet, we want swimmers to report to the team area as soon as they arrive. Remember that swimmers are not permitted to use deck chairs so they should plan to bring a towel, blanket, or chair to sit on in the grassy area.
Swimmers should also bring at least one cap, at least one pair of goggles, a back-up suit, towel, water, and healthy snacks. *Limited concessions will be available.
8:30am Warm Ups-Coaches will hold very brief warm ups to give swimmers an opportunity to get used to the water but short enough to conserve energy to swim up to four events each.
8:50am-8 & unders report to clerk of course
9am-Meet Starts
The order of events is as follows:
Freestyle-8 and under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-18; boys first, girls second for each age group
Backstroke-8 and under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-18; boys first, girls second for each age group
Breaststroke-8 and under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-18; boys first, girls second for each age group
Butterfly-8 and under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-18; boys first, girls second for each age group
Immediately following the end of the meet we will rely on EVERYONE to help clean up. If we all pitch in, we’ll all get going sooner.
Finally, just a few reminders for time trials and future meets:
1. We will have limited concessions at time trials and will provide water for officials and timers. Please bring a refillable water bottle.
2. Please remind your swimmers that they must stay in the team area. They are not permitted to leave the team area unless they check in with, and get approval from, a coach. This is to ensure swimmers don’t miss races.
3. Please encourage all swimmers who have hair longer than a buzz cut to get used to wearing a swim cap. (swim cap are available from the coaches if your swimmer needs one)
4. No one (including swimmers, spouses, family members, etc.) are permitted to approach officials during the meet. This includes our referee, starter, timers, stroke and turn officials, etc. Additionally, no one except those signed up to support data is permitted in the clubhouse during the meet. Please make other communication arrangements with your swimmers or identify an adult they can approach in lieu of you if you are volunteering in any of these positions.
Along with this, officials, including timers, are not permitted to have their phones out/in use. If you must take an urgent or emergency call, please get the attention of the head timer who will step in for you.
5.CHEER!!! Cheer for your kid, your neighbor’s kid, EVERYONE! Not only does it make meets more fun but it sets an exceptional example of sportsmanship for our swimmers.
6. No photography behind the blocks. At our pool, this primarily applies to all 8 and under races and 9-10 butterfly where they start at the deep end of the pool. NO PHOTOGRAPHS are permitted in the area behind the blocks/start. You may take photos from the side or front as long as you do not interfere with officials’ movements.
7. Volunteers who are on deck are reminded to wear plain white tops and navy blue bottoms per NVSL guidelines.
If you have any other questions about meets, please refer to the Truro Swordfish Handbook on Swimtopia or reach out to us at [email protected]
See you on the pool deck.
