Ten Things to Know for This Week
Hello Swordfish Families!
Yesterday’s meet against the Greenbriar Dolphins was very close, and while we fell short of the points needed to win, our Swordfish put up 58 best times! We also had a few volunteers with us who came out of retirement to help our Swordfish families this weekend - special thanks to Bruce Easmunt, who assisted announcer extraordinaire, Owen Shifflett on the mic Saturday, Kevin Brandt, who refereed the meet on Saturday and Cathy Swanton, a long ago Swordfish Parent who hasn’t had a child on the Swordfish swim team in 6 years, and showed up in her white and navy ready to pitch in as a timer. We are lucky to live in a community with people like this.
Top 10 things to know for this week…it's a sprint to the end of the season
10 – Monday is a B meet against the Fairfax Frogs at Fairfax pool. The theme is wacky/tacky. Wear your wackiest socks and craziest hairstyle. Warmups start at 4:55 and swimmers are asked to be on deck at Fairfax by 4:45. Minis will swim first at 5:45 and all other events begin at 6. Order of events is free, back, breast, fly, IM. We are still looking for a few more volunteers for tomorrow’s meet so please sign up if you can help. *Minis will swim a 25 (with a kickboard). Minis coaches will be in the water with them to assist.
9- Clinic on Tuesday from 3-4 is for all age groups and will focus on starts, finishes and underwaters. Tuesday 5pm is also the deadline to RSVP your swimmer’s availability for the meet on 7/6. As a reminder, if you mark your swimmer as available you could be called up to swim even after the meet sheet is finalized.
8- The Wednesday outing is to Burke Lake Park to play mini golf. You can purchase tickets in advance or buy there. (Please note that mini golf is in the park and NOT at the driving range). Meet up time is 1pm. There is no special group coordination for this event. If you want to come to Burke Lake Park but don’t want to play golf there are plenty of other things to do there – check it out.
7- There will be no practice on 4th of July.
6- There will be no afternoon clinics on 4th of July, but if you are local on Thursday, Truro is hosting their annual 4th of July pool party from 1-3.
5- We will have practices as scheduled on Friday in preparation for our meet on Saturday.
4- Friday night is an ice cream social. Please be sure to RSVP if you are attending so we can purchase enough ice cream.
3- Saturday is an Away meet against Daventry in West Springfield. The theme is America so please come dressed in your red, white and blue! We expect the meet to start at 9am and warms up for the Swordfish to begin around 8:25. We will confirm exact times when we receive details from Daventry. All swimmers who are available are encouraged to attend the meet at Daventry and cheer on the team!
2- The week after the 4th of July will be a VERY BUSY week for our Swordfish community. Our last B meet of the season at HOME is scheduled for the 8th, the Ultrazone outing on 7/10, Progressive Dinner for our 13-18s on 7/11, Cake Bake on 7/12 and Senior Day (and our last home meet of the season) on 7/13. It takes a village and next week we will need the entire village to pitch in. We promise it will be fun. Also, Photographer Suz Redfearn will be at the pool on Tuesday morning, 7/9 if your swimmer missed picture day and you would like to take individual photos.
1- We are moving the pancake breakfast scheduled for 7/10 to 7/17 so we can all catch our breath. The schedule will be updated. If you can help out please sign up.
Go Swordfish!
