Truro Swordfish -

In just over a week the 2025 swim season will begin. Afternoon practices will start on Tuesday, May 27th and morning practice will start on Thursday, June 12th, see the schedule below! We will be swim testing new minis and 8 and under swimmers the first few days of practice to determine appropriate placement. We know there is a lot going on right now but ask that you attend practice when available.

Registration is still open, please share this info with new neighbors or friends who would like to join Truro Swim, swimmers can register on our SwimTopia site! After you register, pay through Zeffy, send a check to 8711 Mary Lee Lane, Annandale VA 22003 or bring a check/cash to the first practice.

Division 10

Truro was placed in division 10 for the 2025 season, the other teams in division 10 are Mansion House, Sully Station, Villa Aquatic, Greenbrier, and Shouse Village.

VOLUNTEERS

The Truro Swordfish Swim Team is a non-profit organization run entirely by parent volunteers. The only paid employees are the coaches. Every other aspect of running the team – all the swim meets & every social event – is only possible through the hard work & dedication of many volunteers.

We are always looking to add to our list of Officials for meets:

• Timers
• Data Entry
• Place Recorder
• Starter
• Stroke & Turn judge

Want to be a Meet Official?

Parents who would like to get involved as a stroke and turn judge, a starter or referee will need to take free training offered by the NVSL. Check out the many training opportunities provided by the NVSL here! We can’t run a meet without people trained in these roles, please consider getting trained!

Open Volunteer Spots

We are thankful and excited so many parents are returning as volunteers to support the Swordfish!! We will be reaching out in the upcoming weeks to confirm the rest of our returning volunteer roles for this summer! If there is a job you’d LOVE to have this summer – please let us know!

We have a few large volunteer roles that we must fill. Please let us know if you are able to help in the following areas:

• B-Meet Team Representative – Bonnie James is our current B meet Rep and she would love a partner! They are responsible for coordinating and managing Time Trials and 3 to 4 Monday night B Meets. All B Meets are already scheduled and confirmed for Summer 2025. The bulk of the work for this role occurs on Sundays and Mondays. This role is usually best with a team of 2 parents working together.

• Social Coordinator or take on one social event - this job could be managed by a single person or a team of people. Take on all of the social activities or pick 1 or 2 to organize. Help make memories for the Truro Swordfish swimmers!
• Division Data Coordinator - The Northern Virginia Swimming League is looking for a data coordinator for division 10, if you are interested in data and want to help, let us know!
• Donut Friday Coordinator - Order and bring donuts on Friday to service to swimmers after practice.
• Family Folder Coordinator - Set up and maintain a file system to be kept in the guards office for each family to store ribbons and other materials.
• Photographers - take pictures of meets, practices and social events

If you would prefer to volunteer in another capacity, we have lots of opportunities!

Please let us know how you can help – it’s a great way to support your swimmer’s summer swim team experience, get to know your neighbors and volunteering on deck offers the best view of your swimmer(s) in action!
